I am UK born and bred, raised in the north of Nottinghamshire close to the borders of South Yorkshire and Derbyshire. It was a big coal mining area for many years and my first proper job was in the Mining Industry as a mechanic.

I’ve worked in several jobs over the years, some for a short time, some for longer. I was a mechanic, worked in nightclubs, a call centre, a Policeman, an expedition leader around Africa and Asia for a British company and worked in the travel industry in Crisis Management.
Currently I keep my hand in with a few things but I’m now married with three young children and live in Egypt.

You may have been before on an overland, if so you may relate to what I've written over the next few pages. Even so, you may find out a couple of new things you didn't know you didn't know.

If you haven't been on one but you are reading this for inspiration and information - you've come to the wrong place. But read on anyway, it may open your eyes somewhat.

Readers of the Lonely Planet Thorn Tree forum may well recognise my feeble attempts, so you might as well go back to there now and help someone else, I don't need it, really I don't, I'm fine, I've been taking the medication and it still seems to be working.
